Carlton Highsmith is Business Person of the Year

North Haven, CT (March 8, 2005), Carlton L. Highsmith, President & CEO of Specialized Packaging Group, Inc. (SPG) was presented with the Business Person of the Year Award by Connecticut’s leading bi-monthly business news publication, Business New Haven. The publication’s most distinguished award, sponsored by University of New Haven, was presented at the Annual Business and Civic Awards Banquet held on March 7th, at North Haven’s Holiday Inn.

The award recognized Mr. Highsmith’s accomplishments as a successful entrepreneur as well as his years of devotion to community development. The recognition incorporated a front page feature article written by the co-founder and editor, Michael Bingham who recounted Mr. Highsmith’s journey from his humble childhood in North Carolina to his present position as the CEO of a leading design and manufacturing company that produces cartons for leading national brands such as Colgate-Palmolive, Crest and Ziploc, Mr. Bingham described Mr. Highsmith as a shrewd business man who grew SPG from a small design firm to a large manufacturing organization in such a short given time. The article also noted Mr. Highsmith’s presence in the community, “[having] page upon virtual page of awards, citations, speeches, honors, directorships and countless newspaper and magazine articles…”
